Trutnov, a picturesque town in the Hradec Králové Region, is inseparably linked with the dragon legend, which is reflected in many of its attractions and events. For visitors who want to explore the dragon theme, Trutnov offers a wide range of experiences.
Dragon Gallery
One of the key places is the Dragon Gallery, which tells the legend of the founding of the town in an interactive way, when two woodcutters saw a terrible dragon during its founding in 1006. Terrified, they ran after the intrepid knight Albrecht of Trautenberg and together they overcame the dragon. The dragon has thus forever etched itself into the character of the town and its reflection can be seen literally at every turn.
The gallery also hosts interesting accompanying exhibitions, be it drawings, paintings, photographs or other artistic interpretations.
Dragon Alley
Right in the centre of the town is the Dragon Alley, a monumental place that was symbolically restored in 2004 and recalls the mythical beginnings of Trutnov.
Come and play
For families with children, the Kite Finder is ideal, which you can get at the Tourist Information Centre on Krakonoš Square. In this game, children can search for kites hidden in various places around the town, especially in the town park and forest park, and get to know the beauty of Trutnov in a different way. A similar activity is also offered by the Museum of the Podkrkonoší Region in Trutnov, where, among other things, you can take part in a "Dragon Treasure Hunt". For fans of modern technology, there is Geo Fun.
The city's festivities
The highlight of the year is undoubtedly May's Dragon Festival, a traditional town celebration that brings the dragon legend to life through various performances, games and competitions. The festivities include the raising of a dragon to the Town Hall tower.
Roundabouts in a different way
An unusual element of the cityscape are the dragons on the roundabouts, which in an original way recall the dragon history of Trutnov also in a modern transport context.
Sports activities with kites
For active visitors, the March Behind the Trutnov Dragon, a hiking event that combines outdoor exercise with dragon legend, takes place regularly in May. For an adrenaline rush, there is the Dragon Boats, a popular sporting and social event where teams race dragon boats on the local water area - the Dolce campsite. The event takes place regularly in the month of June.
The Dragon in Trutnov: from beer to story
The U Draka pub invites you to sit down and enjoy refreshments. The pub, whose name commemorates the town's patron saint. And for those who like picture serials, there is "The Dragon Never Sleeps", a modern visual interpretation of the Trutnov dragon legend in comics.
